There seems to be two laptops - one with a good OS on the disk and one with no OS - can you be trying to image good disk to bad disk using the bad disk as a slave (second disk) of the good machine?

Ah ok, I don't think I've put across my problem correctly.
I bought a couple of 2.5 IDE/SATA to USB cables from Ebay, the problem is with the connection of my specific laptop HDD. Basically, the hard drive models connection isn't a standard 2.5 laptop drive connection.
From the HDD description, the connection is SATA-300, and I can't find any adaptors for it.

Hi Chris, there are loads of IDE to USB leads on Ebay £8~12 just enter ide to usb in the search box, but with no operating system on the laptop I can't see you being able to transfer the data, unless from the bios you can get the laptop to boot from the old hdd and then copy your old hdd onto the laptops hdd

Thanks Nigel, although that's a little more than I'd hope to pay!
Peccavi, the problem I have is my operating system install messed up, so I didn't think USB to USB transfer would work, as the laptop has no OS in its current form.
