Electrical faults?

I have a 2000 Iveco Daily 59-12. I've owned it for 2.5 years since a conversion to a horsebox. However, it has always had the odd electrical fault, Shorts, new alternator etc. etc. Are these vehicles known for these type of faults? Latest problem is the starter motor turns even when the ignition is turned off anf when jump started the jump leads heat so we remove them and when the ignition key is turned on the speedo indicator rises to 50mph. Any ideas?

water somewher in the system causing a bad earth, battery leads will heat due to poor connection speedo will jump if it is taking a feed from another system and starter is probably taking a direct feed from somewhere else so most likely sounds like chaffed wires somewhere around starter prob in main loom....find it and should solve most problems.

check for water in rear of fuse box at drivers side .
these vehicles are known for this to happen.

sounds like a short on main lead on starter to small wire on solenoid, have a good look around starter motor for small wire chaffing on main starter lead.could also be starter relay stuck in closed position!
