Cuisinart DLC-5 motor problem?

Cuisinart DLC-5: All works but motor does not spin. It is not stuck. Once started manually it will run at normal speed with no unusual sound or behavior. Clue: it can be manually started in either direction and will run as normal in that direction. However, it will only hum without spinning until manually started. What part has failed: the capacitor? The secondary coil near the switch (I have it apart for repair at present)?
