How can I fix my computer's Windows XP System Restore?

Can anyone help please! Windows XP System Restore has stopped updating on my PC. It will not let me create a restore point, and it has not set up a automatic check point for 2 months. My PC is running OK at the moment, but would like to sort it in case of problems in the future.
