How to fix F20 code on Fisher & Paykel Refrigerator?

I have tried Peters answer Jan 2023, found the wires easy in the grey control box.
See how it goes.

I pulled the plug out of the control box at the rear (2 grey wires labelled flapper) and problem solved. The door flap gets slightly damp with no heater, but no issue with this and the power consumption reduced.

I was most fortunate. Unclipped and lifted the grey cover over the left door hinge, no apparent broken wires. Only had to push the white two piece plug back together...about 1mm. So far, so good.

Hey,

thanks all for the very useful insight. Had exactly the same problem, fixed it as you helped me to. Same clean cut here. The wires are protected at the hinge point by the black tape but the tape was now away from hinge leaving the wire unprotected. I assume this is what caused the cut. No more than 5 min repair. Also suggest adding some electrical tape on the zone around the hinge point.

I have fixed these wires numerous times. You can just get rid of the problem all together by unplugging these wires. The plug us positioned on the control unit at the bottom rear of the fridge. The wires are for heating the flap where the door closes, which i don't think really matters. Note - turn off the power when you do this!

a quick solder job. 3 of 4 wires were broken soldered together used heat shrink and done. Toughest part of job was emptying fridge ( make it lighter) to move it out to access top left hinge cover. manufacturer couldn't have used a smaller gauge wire. be careful when stripping plastic coating.

We had his issue and fixed the wires under the top left hand panel ourselves. But it has started again with the same error message a year on. Checked the wires and they are all still in tact. Any ideas why it is showing F20 error code again?

I had the same problem. i unplugged this power cord and reconnected 15 seconds later and it solved the problem.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. Managed to lift the plastic covers off to look at the hinge at the top of both doors but both seem to be intact. Any advice on what to do next?

In reference to my previous intervention regarding code F20 on my Fisher and Paykel fridge, I got a problem with the flatter right after this code F20 was taken care of. I think that the wire inside the door hinge is there as a warning of a bigger problem to arise. Therefore, I apologize for suggesting that this was a manufacturer's deliberate intervention and realize that if that buzzer had not been bothering me enough to look for the problem, I would have had a bigger repair bill to pay at the end.

I just experienced the same problem on my Fisher and Paykel bought in 2008. A code F20 appeared and after checking the internet, I discovered that a wire inside the left upper door hinge was definitely cut and taped with a black tape that had dried up over the years and therefore generated that code F20. I seems to me that this is a very deliberate action performed by the manufacturer. Very disappointed....

I've just experienced the same problem. I lifted the cover on the left hand hinge and found a piece of loose tape and the broken wire. I can't understand how the wire would break, since it's well away from the hinge point, and shouldn't be subject to movement. The break was very clean, almost like it had been cut. Maybe it's a deliberate design flaw?!

Branco was correct. Wires were broken where they are taped together. No obvious reason why they should have broken there because they aren't moving at that point. Almost as if the tape has somehow caused the break but I don't understand how!

I have also had the dreaded F20 fault code and got the repair man in to fix it three times at a cost of $120 for a 15 minute job that lasted for maybe 6 to 12 months each time. All the repair man would do its put a cap to reconnect the broken wire. In the end I decided to try and sort it myself using the method described above but with a slight variation whereby I used curly wire (follow youtube instructions to make this). Approximately 18 months later and absolutely no issues. Hope this can help someone.

The F20 code is a broken wire on the top of the door hinge as mentioned brilliantly by Brano. A simple solder job

Check the wires to the heating element for the flap most likely they are broken under the hinge cover on the top of the door with the flap lift the plastic cover and you will find the worst set up for sliding wires I have ever seen if you want a long term fix cut a section of the wires out (making sure the fridge has been unplugged) and solder & heat shrink a section of flexible good quality wire in this area making sure the solder joints are far enough away so the movement is not working the joins

It's a "low voltage to heat element" code. The fridge still works, but you definitely have to call a tech for part$ replacement.
