My Kodak md 1063 wont charge?

I bought my Kodak MD1063 a year ago and its been fine. I tried to use it the other day and found the battery dead so tried to charge it using the mains charger, and the charging light only stayed on for about 5 minutes then went off. The camera obviously wasn't charged so I tried it again and again and so on. It just wont charge even using the laptop. What can it be? The camera switches on then straight off again. I dont want to buy new cables or a battery unless theres a good chance this could be it.
