How do I replace the off/on switch on Kenmore 116 27212790 canister vacuum?

I cannot turn the vacuum off and on with the switch. It is a "pedal" type switch (rectangular) at the rear of the motor housing. When I look on PartsDirect, there is not really a mention of a power switch, but rather reference to switch plunger, spring, foam button, etc. No direct reference to a SWITCH. Can anyone assist me with this?
