I actually feel sorry for the general public reading these comments, Acorn i think you are far too diplomatic towards the other two people, any so called engineer called death has got to be odd, your advice is poor. Mr Patterson name noted, dont apply to me for a job. Robert dosent have a point, and probably dosent have a clue. Since when do you find a back up battery in a bell box, the SAB is not a back up battery.
As for fuses, have you looked at the circuit board of the Scantronic range, they used to have them on the smaller panels, the 9448 i believe still do, but apart from that they are a thing of the past, even the expanders dont have them.
Regards
Nick

Oh dear, the problem is going to be the box its self in some way, wet PCB inside? Corroded joint? Tamper switch moving? Cable damaged? Bad joint in cable somewhere? etc etc

It's not going to be a fuse, (common fault, since when?) they don't go faulty and repair themselves.

I've worked on hundreds of Abacus panels over the last 15yrs this fault is no more common to the Abacus than anything else. Basically it's an environmental / poor maintenance problem.

yes he has a point check all fuses this is a comon fault if this still appears you may need to go up to the bellbox and check this get back if it works good luck

MOST ALARM SYSTEMS HAVE A FUSE INSIDE THE CONTROL PANEL GOING TO THE EXTERNAL SOUNDER BUT MOST MODERN SYSTEMS ALSO HAVE A BACK UP BATTERY INSIDE EXTERNAL BELL BOX . FUSE AND OUTSIDE BATTERY MUST BE DISABLED. TURN OFF MAINS FEED TO SYSTEM BEFORE REMOVING FUSE
YOU MAY NEED EAR PLUGS AS ONCE FUSE OR OUTSIDE COVER IS REMOVED ALARM WILL SOUND.
