the unit is noisy when the thermostat kicks in?

the unit makes a rumbling noise when the thermostat kicks and the whole unit shakes

Do you meant the compressor? It will usually start up a few minutes into operation as a protection device.

When the compressor kicks in it gets noisier, shouldn't cause too much vibration though, does it sound different to the fridge??
