removing top?

agreed. as a contractor i agree that anyone who can't get past step 1 should not be attempting the repair.....unless you lost a $1000 under there and are trying merely to retrieve it. in which case, I would come over to help and by pushing a flat-head screwdriver against the clips (usually 4) to remove the top whereby we would equally share the money....

If you can't figure out how to remove the top you shouldn't be messing about with the insides.
