Obviously the battery lead was replaced before I found out the tacho wasn't working ( it was only removed while the vehicle was not in use ).Before its removal both worked and only stopped working after replacing the lead!

make sure you have a chart in the tach (both drivers)
if clock is not working check small earth wire at battery has not fallen off .

Of course. Neither will work without battery power.
