How can I fix my Kenmore HD 80 Series, extra capacity Plus washing machine?

I was just sitting here at my computor when I heard a loud bang and a winding down sound. Went to look and saw it was on no.6 0f the wash cycle, and it had stopped agitating. It's a top loader. Is there an easy way to get to the belts to see if they are busted? It's 1AM and I need my clothes for work in the morning!

It sounds like you have a busted motor coupler, located between the motor and gearcase. The part cost around 20 US dollars. Good luck.
