How can I fix my Ford Transit Connect?

Today I cleaned my van with a damp cloth including the front dash area. When I tried to start it it wouldn't start. It's not the battery as the lights come on, as does the radio. It makes a clicking noise and it seems to be a problem witht the electrics as the radio switches to the tape, the interior light dims and the wipers come on! Very strange, please help.
