auto adjust clutch cable?

is it true that if my car clutch use auto adjust clutch cable then i would not able to adjust my clutch paddle? my car use an auto adjust clutch cable, and i need to release a big gad of clutch before the gear start to engaged. any confirmation or information is highly appreciated. thx
