Geoff - I just used your instructions of 5 years ago - and they are spot on !

Hardest bit is getting the circular washer off - but job done. I had over 30 broken so replace all 60 and kept the usable old ones until the next time (or tine ?).

Rotation of roller has reduced, basically turning but that's about it. Any ideas? Do I Ned to replace motor brushes?

This is probably too late for you now!

I've just replaced my tines as follows:-

1) Remove the tine roller (pull out the split pin)
2) Use a small bladed screwdriver to carefully prise off the circular type spring washer (oil on the spindle may help). Take care, the broken tines are sharp and the screwdriver might slip! Do not bother trying to remove the split pin at the other end of the roller (mine wouldn't budge even when hit with a hammer after I had removed all the orange plastic bits).
3) Remove 19 of the 20 plastic circular bits (leave last on spindle so you know how to refit).
4) Now that you have checked that you can disassemble the roller, buy replacement tines from solenttools.co.uk (£11 for 60 PWR400LRA tines, £12.95 with postage, super quick delivery).
5) Soak plastic circular bits in soapy water (possibly not necessary but may make it easier to fit the bits together). Remove old tines by inserting screwdriver under the leg of the tine (easier than trying to prise the spring portion).
6) Replace tines in right orientation - very easy - and slot plastic circular bit back on spindle. As you are fitting new tines, they aren't as sharp as those when trying to disassemble.
7) When all plastic bits replaced, put end cover plate back on and tap down lightly with a hammer.
8) Slighty flatten the retaining spring washer (removed in step 2) so that it will grip the spindle. Fit the washer and ensure secure (put pliers above washer and around spindle; tap down lightly on the pliers)
9) Fit roller back into lawnrake and secure with split pin (removed in step 1).
10) Spray with WD40 or similar to remove the soapy water.

This procedure is quite easy to do, the hardest bit is disassembling the roller.

Note: If you haven't bought a PWR400LRA already then consider a different make ! (the capture basket is naff and much too small)
