broken mondeo (mk3) glove box lock?

Broken my handle on mk3 mondeo glove box and can't get it open. Any ideas please. I believe it to be a common problem.

No need for all that trouble!!

With the catch removed (Mine fell out) just feel in the bottom left corner for the actuator and press. It may take a few seconds to work out where it is but it is the easiest way to do it.

Tried the coathanger but then found the easiest was to lever down each end of the box lid with a wide paint scaper, put in a length of 2 inch wide piece of 10mm strip wood at each end to hold it down If you use a torch you can see the 2 screws that hold the latch plate and can insert a srcewdriver to remove them. The box then drops down.

regarding the broken glove box...yes you have to buy a new 1 but at £20 is way to steep, head down to the local scrapyard i get 1 for around 2 pounds that what i did.

Same happened to me, i just used the car key, put it to the top left corner with the key flat against the box handle and turned the whole key in an anti clockwise motion, heard a little click and the glove box popped open. Probably ill advised to use a key but i was miles away from my tools, at least its open.

Ignore my previous post.
I just fixed mine yesterday. Best bet is to buy a new latch (you'll need to anyway) and study how it works. I pulled out the leaf spring that sits at the bottom of the catch mechanism (the one that pushes the catch back up) then used a screwdriver to prize back the box that holds the catch (the one that the spring sat under). That allowed the catch to drop down and the glove box to open.
Good luck... hope yours works the same!

Try using your L shaped hanger, still over the top of the glove box, but about .5" or 10mm to the left of the latch. The catch is not at the center of the handle as most people would think. It sits to the left for right-hand-drive cars, so, probably, to the right on LHD cars. I haven't tried this myself but this is the advice I got from my local Ford wrecker. Good luck!

This has just happened to me and I tried with a bent "L" shaped coat hanger but can't seem to do it.

Can you provide anymore details?

If you need something out of it in a hurry, the vent above it just pops out and gives enough room to get at the contents. CDs etc will fit through :)

same has just happened to me. you can open the glove box by using a bent coathanger. bend it into a. 'L' shape and wiggle it through the top opening, then twist it round and you can push down the catch. It's a bit fiddly, but if I can do it, you can too. I think you will need to buy a new glove box catch (part number 1362616), cost shouldn't be more than about £25. Easy to fit, just held on by 3 screws.
