It's probably the motor thats the problem, they were always a weak point and are prone to failiure, check the motor plug at the harness for earth, intermittant live, and low and hi speed live, if youre getting all these and the linkage is in good nick it's most likely the motor. Just remember if you are going to change the motor, ensure the new motor is parked in the correct position and the linkage is lined up with the alignment marks on the linkage frame at the motor mount point (two arrows pointing at each other with a 1/2 gap inbetween), otherwise your wipers end up down the door or halfway down the bonnet.
