Hotpoint Aquarius Condenser keeps cutting out any suggestions?

I thought that I was gong crazy when it appeared that I kept forgetting to turn the dryer on. Turns out that it keeps cutting out. It will start for a little while and then gives up. I have tried hovering out dust and have attempted to check for anything that might be stopping to drum turning but no luck. I does tend to make a horrible burning smell before it cuts out like a motor is working overtime. I have taken the thing to bits as much as possible. The dial is also acting weird and fast "forwarding" now and again. Any clues of what to do get a professional in or buy a new one.
