Bosch ClassiXX - is the lint filter working properly?

When I try to empty the lint filter there is never any lint trapped in it and the cavity is full of water which drains all over the floor (the lint filter door is too close to the floor to fit a bowl underneath). On my old Zannussi machine the lint filter collected far more fluff. What could be wrong with the Bosch filter?
