Do I need to connect both inlet hoses to the washer?
I have a Whirlpool washer machine but I don't want to use the hot water inlet. When connecting the cold one and starting the washer, water starts leaking out from the washer hot inlet that has no hose connected.
I had older washers that didnt need both hoses connected. Is this normal or is it a failure in my new washer.?
I have the same problem with a GE top loader. I found out by accident. I reconnected the hot water hose, but it leaks. To make a long story short, why does this happen? HELP!

The easy way round this is to buy a hose divider to fit to your cold tap. They are available from any washing machine seller or good hardware store.
You then fit two cold fill hoses to it and screw one to the hot fill inlet and the other to the cold fill inlet.
These extras come as standard with a 'cold fill' machine.
