Renault Midliner Gear changing?

Im thinking of buying a 96 reg Renault Midliner Horsebox. My only concern is that I struggled to get in into 2nd gear and slightly difficult in 1st too. The seller didnt seem to have a problem. Does this sound like a gearbox problem or just something you need to get used to??
