95 FORD ESCORT ENGINE TICKING AND MISSING?

HI,
I started to have problems with my engine missing and stalling. I replaced the plug wires, then fuel filter. It still is missing "on and off" and has a ticking sound near the top end of the motor. Could this have anything to do with vacuum hoses on the car? bad injector? HELP PLEASE!
