Rover 45 tdi sticks in 5th gear?

I have recently privately purchaste a 2003 model 52 plate Rover 45 2 ltr TDI and have noticed that when in 5th gear it sometimes will not come out of 5th gear. why does it stick in 5th and not 1, 2, 3 or 4 what could be the problem?

possible some of your cogs, are wearing out or damaged, you might have to be prepared for your box to be stripped down to find fault.
