HOW CAN I FIX MY CONVERGENCE PROBLEM?

I have a four year old Mitsubishi 55-inch rear projection television, and I am having convergence problems with it.

The genesis of this problem may have been an electrical surge while we were on vacation.

The symptoms are as follow:

1. When I use the internal convergence diagram (a cross, on axis blue, and the other red), it cannot bring the blue and red completely together.

2. I go to the advanced convergence feature and get a grid where red and blue are not connected, but are a way off from the center (green) grid. I work to bring them together, and never quite get them to match (except in the absolute center of the screen). Sometimes it fixes the problem for a day or two, but it always comes back. It takes a LONG time to do this convergence because the grid is usually curved too. If I can get the perfect squares grid, convergence is relatively simple and quick.

I am at my wits end with this problem. Can it be fixed by me, or do I need to hire some technician at lotsa money?

I'd appreciate any help you can offer.

if the convergence is miles out then the end user will not be able to adjust it to get it set up perfectly, common causes of this are if the unit has been banged knocked or as you say it could of been a power surge or even the units memory bank (NVM) has reset, in each case the unit will require a technician to sort it out, but be warned as these units are horrible to work on (requiring hours of labour) be prepared for an hefty repair bill
hope this is of some help
