faulty roof on escort cabriolet?

Hi i have just bought a 1996 escort cabriolet but the roof is not working when I press the button for it to go down electricaly, i can get the roof down manually, the pump works, the res is full of oil, but roof still doesnt move, any ideas would be gratefully received
