just got my vauxhall frontera back from its service and on advisory note is says both front bottom ball joint gaiters are perished. any idea what these are please?

The ball joint gaitors are made of rubber & protect the ball joint from dirt & weather & keep the grease contained in the ball joint. If it gets a hole in it,the ball joint will wear quicker.

the lower arm has a balljoint connecting it to the hub assy,the balljoint has a rubber shroud/gaiter/cover to keep dirt/water from entering the joint and wearing it out.
