Problem with Accoustics solutions DVD80RW300?

I have an Accoustic Solutions DVD80RW300 DVD/HD recorder which after switching on the machine it goes through its 'preparation' routine and then works perfectly except that after about 30 secs it stops, 'prepares' and then closes down.
Is there a simple solution to my problem or should I bin it.
