Resetting timing on my Emerson TV/VCR combo?

I have an Emerson VT1321 that broke a small belt. I replaced it twice with a rubber band. Got tired of that so I bought real belts and replaced all of them. Now the timing seems off. It will not take a tape. Are there timing marks or a start up position to get all things timed properly?
