Hi, We have a built in CDA CW494 dishwasher that has recently developed a fault. When a cycle is selected it starts to run/fill but then stops. When I open it the far right light flashes 6 times, pauses, then repeats (I think this is a fault code?). If I hold down this button to reset and close the door the water drains away fine (the water has not heated up by the way). I have thoroughly cleaned the filter and also checked the far end of the inflow pipe but cannot get behind the dishwasher. By pushing the latch in the door I have got it to run with the door open, it fills up but then stops ie the rotors do not turn at all (they do turn freely by hand).

My Hotpoint dishwasher stopped working in a similar way. Turn it on its side to remove the bottom plate. The pump motor was very hot and hums but does not pump ( causing the arms to spin) though when the motor is removed it turns freely. This pump has a capacitor to get it started and this has failed. Hotpoint don't sell the capacitor separately and the whole unit costs> £100. Cost to replace capacitor from local electrical shop £3.50.

Thanks for your help, is this something I can do myself (average DIY skills) or should I be looking at getting someone in? If the latter would this be classed as a 'big' job or would it be quite straightforward for someone qualified?

circulation pump jammed up or leaked and seized up and will need a new one fitting.need to lay dishwasher on its back and remove the base panel to get access to the circulation pump
