E12 error code?

just brought a 6000cd player first disc i inserted was a cd lens cleaner played fine,then inserted a cd came up with the error code E12.powered it down reconnected all the leads played fine for a few seconds then became distorted got a feeling the lens could be u.s.
any suggestions please.
