How can I fix my Cookworks mixer model HM916?

I bought a Cookworks mixer model HM916 in a sale earlier this year (2010) I didn't try to use it until this month (Nov.) as have a hand blender already. The first time I assembled the mixer and tested it all was fine but when I put ingredients into the bowl to make a cake it wouldn't work. My husband checked the fuse and there's nothing wrong with that, so what can be done to try to repair something that's never even been used?
