Water running constantly in toilet bowl?

I have a toilet with the flush button on the top of the cistern, is it possible to renew the flush mechanism?

Replaced the flush mechanism. No further problems.

Sounds as though the washer is loose or perished at the base of the siphon and is passing water through in to the pan. It is not such an easy job but if you are mechanically minded you can try taking the cistern off the toilet (via the wingnuts) and screws into the wall and either replacing or remaking the sihpon washer in with silicone or similar. (be careful not to crack the cistern when tightening up again)
Good luck

Perccavi, Thanks for your reply - with a full tank and the water turned off it still runs into the pan and eventually empties the tank.

We have a similar problem but it is not caused by overflow. The filling of the cistern cuts out at an appropriate point, but water is still trickling into the bowl. Any other answers?

Yes but the symptom you have has nothing to do with the flush syphon mechanism.

Too much water is entering the cistern and it's overflowing into the pan.

Sometimes this is caused by a perished washer on the inlet valve but more usually a simple adjustment will fix it.

You need to shut the inlet valve sooner - either turn the adjusting screw inwards towards the valve and tighten the little nylon locking nut - or - drop the float lower into the water.

It is not a serious problem if you leave it until another day - you will just waste a couple of gallons of water.

Good luck...
