poorly Zanussi FJ 1214 washing machine door seal?

Ok, this maybe a mistake for me to try it, but I want to replace a torn rubber door seal on my zanussi FJ 1214 washing machine. I've got a new seal but my manual doesn't address how to fit it and I can't seem to remove the old one. Is this something I can do myself? The clothes basket is over flowing and I'm getting worried.

I am afraid you have to go a little bit deeper than that. You have to get inside and remove the concrete ring on the front of the drum. When removed you will find a spring holding the other side of the rubber to the drum.
Please remove from the mains before attempting this!

oh, and I have taken off the plastic ring that was holding the seal on the outside - but still no joy.
