I need to do the same thing, I've been told to get a sheet of polycarbonate as it can be shaped without heat (unlike perspex) also for restoring the ends of the rubber I would get a tube of what's commonly known as panel fix/sika-flex/tiger seal. you can get it from most good auto spares shops. once you have applied it. use a wet finger to mould it in place hope this helps.
