Thanks for that but the low flame is there and it turns on and off ok, we think maybe the thermosatat needs replacing?

I think that it is the Flame Failure Device, basically a thermocouple that sits over the burner unit and senses the flame is still on and releases the main flow, so you cannot blow the flame out when shutting the door, about £50-70 on ebay, British Gas will not have the part until 05 Jan 2011
