Mend Hotpoint WMA76 Washing Machine Water Inlet Fill Problem

hotpoint wma76 not filling up properly during wash cycle?

I have a Hotpoint WMA76 that works fine apart from when it is filling for the wash cycle it hardly lets any water in, the clothes barely get wet and come out dirty although the machine continues to wash through its normal cycle without water. During the rinse cycle it fills up fine but cold water does not clean clothes! Has anyone any ideas what is wrong?
