I switch it on from the mains and press the big ON button on TV, but all it does it click and click and click.....Whats it looking for?

The set should be fixable if you are handy with a soldering iron. The Capacitor that controls the Relay which turns the TV on (on the power supply) has most likely failed and needs to be replaced (there's about 12 capacitors in all).

If you know what you are doing, its not hugely difficult.
