unable to programe my diplomat ADP 8352?

yes can switch unit on from main button on door edge and power light on (green). But other programe buttons do not respond to set up the programes required. Only when main power button is switched off do any of the programe buttons respond giving red programe lights but for only a couple of secoinds and they fade with the power.
