ecu repair?

Hello
I have a astra 1.6 8V petol 2003 which is in the garage at the moment thay say it needs a new ecu.
We have just bought the car about 5 weeks ago which was playing up. it would start when cold and then cut out and would,ent start at all for about 30 mins till it was cold again.do you think it could be repaired the ecu.
