tefal gv8120 intermittent steam?

The iron initially works ok for a few minutes then stops ... no steam and no noise from the pump. If I switch it off and let it cool down it will start the cycle again. I have tried flushing it out with water which helps to prolong the steam cycle but does not resolve the problem, is there a simple cost effective fix???
