How should I fix a wood dining room chair leg?

The leg broke away from where it was glued to the square wooden base for the seat. The material is wood and the leg had been attached with glue and dowels. It appeared that the leg was not sitting flush with the chair base at the time it was originally made so it was vulnerable to what happened.

Hi Richard
To re-glue, scrap out any dried glue you can see, apply a good woodworking glue to the joints and clamp together to dry. If you can not fix on a clamp, hold the joints in position by tying a length of strong string around the legs. Tighten this by placing a stick in the string and turning it round several times until the string is really taut. Wedge the stick under the chair seat so that it stays in place until the glue has dried. If the screws holding the chair together have lost their grip, replace them with slightly larger screws so that they screw in tightly. Dip the screw in wood glue first for good measure
