broken dip stick?

i have a renault clio 1.4 petrol and the plastic end of the dip stick has got stuck inside the tube and we cannot get it out, is it safe to drive the car with out it moving into the oil sump??, and how do i remove it is it a garage job??

It should be safe enough to drive. I can't guarantee it though. You would have to be really unlucky for it to drop right down then move into a position where it could do any harm.

If it does drop right down then the sump would have to come off to retrieve it though. A rather bigger (and more expensive) job than pulling it back up.

thanks for your advise,, i have tried to get it out but it is well and truly stuck in there, think its best to go to the garage, i just wondered if it is safe to drive i was worried that the plastic stick may move further into the engine,??

A very common occurrence with the Clio and other Renaults. In many vehicles, the dipstick tube can be removed and should be possible on your vehicle. If so, just remove the tube from around the dipstick. There should then be enough of the dipstick sticking out from the engine to grab on to with pliers.
