Mend Kenmore 665.15772990 Dishwasher Sounds Stops

I have a Kenmore 665.15772990 dishwasher. When I try to start it it makes several clicking sounds like the motor is trying to start but after a few tries it stops and a red light comes on on the start button. It sounds like something is jamming the motor. see below.

Further to this occurrence; I removed the arm and filter and then manually turned the impeller and started the unit. It made a loud grinding sound while pumping out the standing water. In a minute it stopped so I repeated the action several times and eventually it ran. I put the unit through a cycle and it ran with a loud grinding sound which ended before the first wash cycle. It appears to be working now. Can you please provide some incite as to what happened?

By the sound of it you had something jammed in the impeller, what ever it was possibly eventually broke up and went out the waste, I would suggest check the pumps just in case. badly damaged impellers, will give an imbalance and wear bearings quicker as well as reducing pumping efficiency.
