Hotpoint Aquarius WF440 stuck in Prewash ?

Machine was working OK. Fresh load put in. Progamme was H. Drum did not turn and then "prewash" indicator started flashing after the initial fill without me touching anything. Is the drum motor broken? Do I need to buy a new machine? I have managed to drain the water out and remove the clothes. Tried switching off and then on. Tried switching off and on at wall socket. No change. Have not tried switching off at wall for long time.

probably worn brushes in the motor, remove it and if they are worn fit a new set. it helps to clean the armature with 750/1000 grit paper if it looks blackish before fitting the new brushes
