Gainsborough Impulse 9.5W Shower?

My mum has a Gainsborough Impulse 9.5W Shower and the control knob will not turn. We have taken the front panel off and we can't see any broken parts. If we press the water control valve the water comes through as normal. When I put panel back on the control knob is still jammed. It's very stiff and will not turn around. Clues, anyone?! Thanks!
