How can I fix an E1 error code on a Samsung ER5115II?

How can I clear this error, the manual does explain how to clear any errors?

I am in he process of programming the PLU keys. Key numbers 1, 11 and 15 won't allow me to program them. The other 12 were no problem. 11 and 15 are preset price keys. 1 should be open to add the inputs from the number pad. When I go through the sequence and hit x/time to finalize the programming I get the dreaded E1 code.

You normally just press the clear button to remove an error. Press clear (C) and make a correct entry. If it still errors, tell me the key sequence you used.
