Bolens trimmer head turns too slowly?

I have a Bolens bl160 straight shaft 25cc fstring trimmer. The motor runs fine but the trimmer head turns too slowly. I can hear something in the head that might be something rubbing against a gear. when I take out the part that holds the string the head runs much faster.
