39S500 Simpson Dryer - How do I turn it on?

I'm at a friend's house and don't know how to turn on the dryer. I've pressed the reset button a zillion times, cleaned out the lint, moved the timer switch, turned it off on the wall, but there is no automatic operation and other than that it is no obvious how it works as there is no on button. Can you help?
