My ignition key wont fit the hole?

I parked my Ford mondeoa R reg in the morning. On return in the afternoon, the doors opened electronically, but the ignition key cannot fit the key hole. The steering compactment was opened but was intact when I parked the car. The tyres are locked thereby making it impossible to turn the steering. Can anyone help with the solution please?
