I'm assuming your boiler is either a Potterton Promax, Baxi Duo-Tec or possibly a Main Combi eco, These boilers don't have a permanent pilot light all you need to do is make sure the gas is on and turn the left-hand control knob to reset for 5secs ish then let go (anticlockwise to about 10 o'clock) control knob is spring loaded and it will just go back into CH/HW mode

You need to re-light the pilot light.

It's a small to tiny burner that must remain lighted at all time. It's purpose it to ignite the main burner.

When you cut off the gas, it went out and won't re-ignite by itself.

You'll probably find a small, probably red but may also be uncoloured, metallic button next to it. If present, press it and use a lighter or match to ignite the pilot light.

If there are NO such button, leave the door open and ventilate the boiler room as well as possible, wait some time to ventilate the burner compartement (at least 15 minutes), then bring a lit lighter slowly to the pilot light.

Before you close the door of the burner compartement, make sure that the pilot light is burning steadily.
